Traffi c Management and Shaping
The TK3723 is the industry’s fi rst EPON Optical Line Terminal (OLT)
System-on-Chip (SoC) with two dual-speed Turbo-EPON™ MACs and
multi-service traffi c management and shaping. Teknovus’ Turbo-EPON MACs support
both 1.25Gbps and 2.5Gbps downstream data rates, enabling carriers to reduce costs by
employing higher split ratios and/or increase ARPU through deployment of service models
tailored for single-family and multiple-dwelling-unit (MDU) residential, and small/medium
business and enterprise subscribers.
Designed for access networks serving both business and residential subscribers, the TK3723
provides all the built-in functionality and performance required for OLTs delivering triple-play
services. The TK3723’s Turbo-EPON MAC features a confi gurable Dynamic Bandwidth
Algorithm (DBA) that supports hierarchical fairness for guaranteed Service Level Agreement
(SLA) contracts. Fully confi gurable L2/L3/L4 line rate packet processing allows for advanced
classifi cation, fi ltering, and application monitoring.
To meet the needs of subscribers and carrier business models, real-world triple-play
networks face the challenge of continuously delivering an endlessly-varying combination
of bursty MPEG-compressed video, latency-sensitive VoIP calls, and Internet traffi c. Highcapacity
traffi c management and shaping in the central offi ce/head-end are required to
satisfy these requirements – yet may add many thousands of dollars in CapEx. The TK3723
has more than 2,000 shapers and supports up to 512MB of packet buffering – enabling 2-5
seconds of buffering per IPTV channel, while grooming network traffi c to optimize utilization
